Jinhae, South Korea
The city of Jinhae is a district of Changwon situated inside the Gyeongnam province. Right within the city happens the biggest cherry blossom festival in the country. This was first inaugurated to commemorate the memorial service of late naval admiral Yi Sun-Sin of the Joseon period. The annual celebration usually starts from the last week of March to the first week of April. During that week, the Korean weather starts to become very balmy and warm and so the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
n a large festival like this, expect some several fun-filled activities, flea markets, mouth-watering Korean street foods and the likes. Another thing to anticipate is the crowd of people. I was warned with different relatives and closest friends that the place is so crowded that there’s no room for an apple to fall. 😱
Albeit those advices, my hubby and I went to see it in our own eyes.

Every tropical child who grew up watching Japanese animes have dreamt of seeing Sakura once in their lifetime. Back then, I never heard about Korean cherry blossoms, It was my husband that enlighten me that not only Japan holds a cherry blossom festival yearly. He told me good stories and how typical it is to see these flowers during the spring. I couldn’t agree more with everything that my husband said. You can actually see these flowers everywhere in the country– literally!
If you plan to include Jinhae in your future spring tour, I would suggest that you will check the website I wrote above. It will give you a handful of tips and convenience because they do offer free bus rides that will drop you off at the two spots where the festival are being held.
Some articles claimed that Cherry blossom is originated from South Korea, specifically in Jeju Island. This issue is debatable, however what really matters is how it became widespread and many people seem to enjoy its beauty today. The only sad thing about cherry blossoms, they only last for a couple of days. I wish they could keep on at least few months before they wither. Anyhow, I expect to see them next year and I can’t wait to be mesmerized again by its color and charm.
